Biography

Sheikh Khalid is the Secretary General of International Centre for Peace Studies ( ICPS ) India based premier think tank engaged in the study and research on issues relating to peace and conflict in societies across the world & Islamic countries.

He is a Journalist, Writer & expert on counter terrorism & Peace building .

Life

Sheikh Khalid was born in Ganderbal village of Kashmir valley in a staunch nationalist family, his grandfather Ali Sheikh was a farmer and His father Sheikh Ghulam Mohammad was a decorated officer who participated in India Pakistan war of 1965 and 1971 and retired as Director Defense.

Career

Khalid started his career as a Journalist and covered many National and International events and worked with National and International Media News Bureau’s in India and Abroad.

Khalid has widely travelled the world and has addressed National & International conferences on Jammu and Kashmir and represented India in European states and contributed his insights to Governments, International Organizations like RAND, European Parliament and other policy makers. He is a regular invitee at UNHRC Geneve Switzerland. 

At 22 years of age, he was the youngest representative at UN Commission for Human Rights, Geneva Switzerland. He represented the commissions and sub commissions, councils of the United Nations .

In March 2014 He joined the National Political party Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) he was publicly inducted by Shri Narendra Modi, who said: “I don’t know whether the friends in media pay attention towards this news today my friend Khalid Jehangir has joined the BJP, he has craved niche in International journalism and I am proud of him and welcome him in BJP”, which was telecasted on live media.

Khalid was nominated as party spokesperson before the Government of Jammu & Kashmir appointed him as the first ever VC of prestigious Corporation Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) a position he continued to hold till 2018, until the State government collapsed.

In 2019, Khalid took a brief detour into politics with his election to the Indian general elections for the 17th Lok Sabha from Srinagar Budgam parliamentary constituency against former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah of National conference. (9). Khalid has been a columnist in each of India’s best-known English-language newspapers and Portals.

Personal Views

Sheikh Khalid believes that India must train and educate its youth. He encourages the youth to take an active part in public life, and shoulder greater social and political responsibility.
